Community Services

The Township of South Glengarry's Community Services Department is comprised of Planning, Building, By-Law Enforcement, Property Standards, Animal Control, Fire Services and Recreation Programming.

Planning Department

This department is responsible for land-use planning and for the review of planning applications such as zoning amendments, official plan amendments, severances (consents, see form below), site plan control, part lot control, plan of subdivisions, condominiums, minor variances, etc.

Building, By-Law Enforcement, Property Standards and Animal Control

These are administered and enforced through various Provincial Regulations and Policies such as the Ontario Building Code Act (OBC) and Drainage Act as they apply to buildings, structures, and their occupancy.  These actions are performed in accordance to municipal By-laws such as the Zoning By-Law, Site Plan Control, Property Standards, Animal Control By-Law, and all other applicable By-laws.  Requests for inspections, issuance of building, demolition and other related/required permits are all processed through the Building Department.

South Glengarry Fire Services

The Township's five Fire Stations, located in Glen Walter, Lancaster, Martintown, North Lancaster and Williamstown are managed by a Fire Chief and are staffed by volunteers. Volunteer firefighters respond to fire and rescue calls, when required, at any time of day or night.

Volunteers meet on a regular basis to train and practice for fires and emergencies.

The Recreation Programming

Recreation facilitates and maintains programs for year-round recreational activities for the residents of South Glengarry and acts as liaison with community groups that use and maintain municipal facilities.

The Township has several parks, wharfs, trails, community halls and centersindoor and outdoor skating rinks
