ST. RAPHAEL'S

This popular tourist destination is located on Cty rd 18, just West of Hwy 34.

Reverend Alexander MacDonell built the county's first Roman Catholic church at St. Raphael's in 1789. It was named the Blue Chapel because of its blue ceiling.

In 1970, a fire destoyed the church, leaving today's stone ruins, now known as the Ruins of St. Raphael's.

John Sandfield MacDonald lived near St. Raphael's before he became the first Premier of Ontario in 1867.
