Garbage & Recycling Collection during COVID-19

Please be advised that garbage and recycling collection remains uninterrupted during the COVID-19 situation. To ensure collection staff are kept safe, please ensure all garbage waste is bagged and not left loose in bins.

Please be advised that loose garbage will not be collected. Thank you for your support.

Landfill Hours During COVID-19

Please be advised that our Landfill Site remains open during regular hours.

  • The Beaver Brook Road Landfill site (19281 Beaver Brook Road, east of Chapel Road) accepts waste materials from October 1st to May 31st on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • The North Lancaster Landfill site (4580 2nd Line Road) accepts waste materials from June 1st to September 30th on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Garbage Collection Guidelines

Full details about garbage collection can be found in the Garbage Collection Brochure.

  • All bags must be tied
  • No loose garbage
  • No heavy construction material or heavy metal
  • Do not use 45 gallon drums
  • Branches must be tied in bundles and be no longer than 4 feet in length
  • Garbage should be as close to the road as possible

The following types of containers are acceptable for garbage collection:

  • A receptacle manufactured and commercially available for the use of collection of waste with a capacity not exceeding 136 litres (30 gallons), a height of approximately 71 centimetres (28 inches), a diameter of approximately 45.7 centimetres (18 inches) and must have a watertight lid and two hands, or
  • A non-returnable plastic bag of 0.09 cubic metres maximum capacity and made from a minimum of 1 ½ mil gauge material capable of carrying 27 kilograms (60 pounds) of contents without tearing.

Recycling Guidelines

Every year the Township of South Glengarry develops a Collections Calendar (August to July) which details our recycling program.

Recycling will not be collected if it is in a large recycle bin (35 gallon bins). They are too large and at times too heavy for crews to lift. Recycling bins can be purchased at the Township office for $7, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

If any of your recycling items are not collected you should receive a Recycling Tag indicating why the item was not picked up.

Waste Recycling Strategy

The Township has completed a Waste Recycling Strategy Plan to assist us in planning for the future. Through public education and implementation of new waste diversion measures, we can increase our diversion rate and save space in our landfills.
