South Glengarry Building Activity Continues to Rise at Record Pace
MoreLancaster, Ontario, May 25, 2018 – If the first quarter numbers are any indication, 2018 will be a record year for building activity in the Township of South Glengarry.
In a report presented to Council at the April 16th Council Meeting, Chief Building Official Kevin Lalonde reported on the number of permits issued from January 1st to March 31st, 2018, with a comparison to the numbers from the previous 3 years.
“Over the past 3 years, we have processed over 740 permits with a construction value in excess of $59 million,” stated Lalonde, “We are off to a busy start for the 2018 season. If the current trend continues, this will be a record year for building activity.”
Lalonde’s report indicates that both construction value and permit revenue have steadily increased every year since 2015 for the first quarter of the year. Permit activity has already increased by 39% compared to this time last year, and is up 120% compared to 2015.
In terms of residential construction for the current year, of the 53 permit applications received to date, 7 are for new single detached dwellings and 1 is for a new 6-plex.
“The facts speak for themselves. More and more people every year are choosing the Township of South Glengarry as their preferred place to build, renovate and invest and to those people, we say thank you,” stated Chief Administrative Officer Bryan Brown, “Hopefully these trends will continue through this year and future years.”
Residents who are planning a building or construction project are encouraged to contact the Building Department to learn whether or not their project will require a permit and what information will need to be submitted with their permit applications.
