South Glengarry Participates in Annual
Emergency Response Plan Training & Exercise

Lancaster, Ontario, December 9, 2019 – The Township of South Glengarry conducted an emergency response plan training and exercise on Thursday, December 5th, 2019. Members of the Emergency Control Group including municipal officials, OPP, and Fire Services participated in the joint exercise to practice a proactive response required in a potential emergency.

While no one wishes for an emergency to occur, all Ontario municipalities are required to hold annual emergency management training and exercises as part of their community emergency management program to be ready to protect the health and welfare of their residents in order to further the development of disaster-resilient communities.

This year’s training focused on a tour of the Cornwall Regional Airport, later gathering at the Glen Walter Fire Station for an emergency exercise. All members of the Emergency Control Group, including partner agencies and emergency services, were invited to participate in the training session.

“Our aim for these training exercises is to evaluate procedures within the South Glengarry Emergency Plan, as well as familiarize members of the Emergency Control Group with their roles and responsibilities within the plan,” stated Joanne Haley, General Manager Community Services/Community Emergency Management Coordinator. “The purpose of the exercise is to focus on communicating amongst the departments, agencies and especially the public, the best way to communicate our responses and available resources to our residents.”
