Williamstown Public School Receives Government Funding

Williamstown, Ontario, July 27, 2020 – The Township of South Glengarry is pleased to share that the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has received approval and funding from the Ministry of Education for expansion of the Williamstown Public School, in Williamstown. Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonnell, Municipal Council, UCDSB staff, and Trustees were in attendance at the school during the official announcement on July 27th, while following current social distancing practices and public health protocols.

The Ontario Government announced on July 23^rd that it would invest over $500 million to build 30 new schools and make upgrades to 15 existing facilities. The province has given the Upper Canada District School Board approval for an addition to the Williamstown Public School that will provide a new, quality learning environment expansion for the students of South Glengarry as part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces. This addition would allow for 121 new elementary student spaces (total 380)

“We are thankful for the province for thinking of Eastern Ontario, and the Upper Canada District School Board, in deciding to fund the expansion of Williamstown Public School,” stated Mayor Frank Prevost at the announcement. “On behalf of the Township, we are pleased that the community will benefit from this investment and look forward to seeing the school grow.”

Williamstown Public is a rural school located next to the South Glengarry Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown. The school holds an active sports program and numerous opportunities for students to participate in public speaking, musical and dramatic productions, and Cornwall Family of Schools interscholastic tournaments.
