Pools
Pool enclosure permits are required for all above-ground and in-ground pools within the Township of South Glengarry. The permit ensures that pool enclosures meet the safety requirements outlined in the Township’s Pool Enclosure By-law.
To apply for a pool enclosure permit, applicants must submit a completed application form along with supporting documents that show the location of the pool and enclosure on the property. This includes site plans identifying property lines, buildings, septic systems, wells, municipal services, and the proposed enclosure details.
Pool enclosures must meet minimum safety standards. The enclosure must be at least 1.5 metres high and fully surround the pool area. Openings in the fence cannot allow an object larger than 100 mm to pass through, and the enclosure must be positioned at least 1 metre from the inside wall of the pool.
Before filling a pool with water, the enclosure must be constructed, inspected, and approved by the Township’s Building Department to confirm compliance with the by-law.
Applicants are also responsible for arranging required inspections and ensuring the pool location meets electrical clearance requirements and other safety considerations before construction begins.
