Natural Areas

The Township of South Glengarry is home to a number of natural areas and passive open spaces. Some are owned by the Township but the majority are owned and operated by other agencies.

Bernie McDonell Park

Lancaster Heights

It features a pond with two small islands, a footbridge and a picnic area.

Charlottenburgh Park

County Road 2, Summerstown

Owned by the Raisin Region Conservation Authority and features a public beach (unsupervised) and picnic area, as well as camping lots.

Cooper Marsh Conservation Area

County Road 2, Lancaster

Part of the larger (650 acre) Charlottenburgh Marsh and linked to the St. Lawrence Recreational Path. Features a modern Visitors Centre, boardwalks, 7 km of trails, a viewing tower and a picnic/BBQ area with a shelter.

Glen Gordon Park

County Road 34, Lancaster

This passive park was former MTO rest stop has been upgraded by the Township and is used as a roadside stop by travelers.

Gray's Creek Conservation Area

Boundary Road, South Glengarry

Operated by the Raisin Region Conservation Authority, a 106 acre natural site featuring a 110 slip marina on the St. Lawrence River as well as 5 km of groomed trails, picnic/BBQ area with a shelter, volleyball court and public washrooms.

Library Park

Military Road, Lancaster

This Township owned park is located behind the library in Lancaster. There are benches and a Remembrance Day monument.

Peanut Line

South Glengarry

This is a multipurpose trail that extends from the eastern to the western border of the Township.

South Lancaster Wharf

Pine Street, South Lancaster

The Wharf is located on the corner of Pine Street in South Lancaster and is one of few locations with public access to the waterfront

The Cairn

Cairn Island, Lancaster

Located on an island south of Lancaster, this National Historic Site is no longer open to the public

Waterfront Trails

South Glengarry

Being a part of the St. Lawrence Recreational Path and the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail Network. The Township of South Glengarry has over 45 km of paved waterfront trails for cycling

Women's Institute Park

3rd Line Road, Bainsville

This is a small parkette along 3rd Line Road and is owned by the Ministry of Transportation. On the south edge of Bainsville, it features picnic tables and commemorative trees.
