Marriage Services

Marriage Licences are issued at the Municipal Office. Please note, you should make an appointment to have your license issued.  Please call our office to request an appointment 613-347-1166 ext. 2111 or email clerk@southglengarry.com

Marriage licenses can be issued no more than ninety (90) days in advance of your intended date of marriage. You may download the Marriage License form prior to visiting the office. These forms can also be provided in person at our office. At least one of the two individuals getting married must submit the application-in person. The fee for a marriage license is $125.00.

The Township has appointed Marriage Commissioners for the provision of non-denominational civil marriage solemnization services. The fees for this service are payable to the Township of South Glengarry and are as follows:

• $150.00 for services performed during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. (There are only 10 people permitted in the room at one time for the ceremony. This includes the officiant, the couple, two witnesses and up to five guests.)
• $350.00 for services performed outside normal business hours.

Marriage Licence Requirements:

• Both parties must sign the marriage licence application form. The marriage licence can be issued to one or both of the applicants.
• Two of the following valid pieces of identification are required for each applicant, with at least one piece containing a current photo: 
  • Birth Certificate
  • Current Passport with photo
  • Record of Immigrant Landing
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Ontario Health Card with photo
  • Ontario Photo ID Card
  • Secure Indian Status Card

• If you are divorced, we require the original Judgment or Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute or a certified copy of the same by the court which granted the divorce. An uncertified copy is not accepted.
