Make a difference in South Glengarry – consider running for Municipal Council!

Members of Council represent the people of South Glengarry. They help guide policy, approve budgets, and make decisions that shape the Township’s future.

Offices to be elected include:

  • Mayor (1)
  • Deputy Mayor (1)
  • Councillors (3)

Interested candidates can submit their nominations beginning May 1, 2026 until April 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Refer to the “Resources” section below to download the forms required to submit your nomination.

Any person who is qualified to be a voter in South Glengarry is also eligible to be a candidate and run for a Council position.

To be eligible to run for a Council position, you must:

  • Be a resident of South Glengarry, be an owner or tenant of land in South Glengarry OR be the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Be at least 18 years old; and
  • Not be prohibited from voting under subsection (3) of the Municipal Elections Act or otherwise by law.

Please note that if you were a candidate in the 2022 Municipal Election and failed to file your Financial Statement, you are ineligible to be elected or appointed to any office until the 2030 Municipal Election.

The nomination period begins on Friday, May 1, 2026 and closes at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 21, 2026. Interested candidates may file their nomination during regular business hours (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM), Monday to Friday at the Township Office located at 6 Oak Street, Lancaster. Email clerk@southglengarry.com to book an appointment to file your nomination.

When you meet with the Clerk to file your nomination, you will need to bring:

  • One (1) piece of government issued photo identification
  • The completed Nomination Form (Form 1)
  • The completed Endorsement Form (From 2), which includes 25 signatures from people who are eligible to vote in South Glengarry who endorse your nomination.
  • Application filing deposit - $200 for the office of the Mayor, $100 for all other offices.

Yes. The last day you can withdraw your nomination is Friday, August 21, 2026 by 2:00 PM.
