Burn Permits

A valid burn permit is required for all open-air burning in South Glengarry. Burn permits must be obtained before starting any fire and are required to ensure community safety and compliance with local fire regulations.

Permits are valid for one calendar year and expire on December 31st, regardless of the issue date. Be sure to renew your permit annually to remain in compliance.

Types of Burn Permits & FAQ's

Residential

This permit type encompasses campfires, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits and burn barrels.

Rural

This permit is for the burning of yard waste and branches. Registering each event through the system is required.

Farm

This permit requires Fire Chief approval. Please consult the Fire Chief before starting any land clearing to ensure By-law compliance.

Only residents living in approved areas can obtain a permit. Permits are conditional and may be revoked at any time.

If you want to have an open-air fire (bonfire, fire pit etc.) then yes, you need an approved permit. If you are having a barbecue a permit is not required
