Highly anticipated 128-bed facility to serve South Glengarry seniors and their families

Lancaster, Ontario – September 11, 2025 – The Township of South Glengarry is celebrating a major milestone with the official groundbreaking of the new Lancaster Long-Term Care Home, a 128-bed facility that will provide seniors with modern, high-quality care close to home.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together community leaders and provincial dignitaries, including the Honourable Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care; Dan Argiros, CEO of Arch; Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough–Kawartha and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance; Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont–Dundas–South Glengarry; Lachlan McDonald, Mayor of the Township of South Glengarry; and Michael Fedchyshyn, CEO of the Building Ontario Fund.

Township representatives in attendance included Mayor Lachlan McDonald, Deputy Mayor Martin Lang, Councillor Trevor Bougie, Councillor Sam McDonell, Chief Administrative Officer Jamie Fawthrop, Municipal Planner Joanne Haley, and Economic Development Officer Jennifer Treverton.

Speaking on behalf of the Township, Mayor McDonald emphasized the community’s excitement and need for the project:

“This home is highly anticipated and important to our community,” said Mayor Lachlan McDonald. “It means that more families will have peace of mind knowing their loved ones are nearby in a safe, modern, and compassionate setting right here in South Glengarry. I want to give special recognition to our Municipal Planner, Joanne Haley, who has been involved since the site selection stage and has played an instrumental role in making this project a reality.”

The Lancaster Long-Term Care Home will offer residents modern amenities, private and semi-private rooms, and common areas for socialization, activities and dining. Beyond the bricks and mortar, it represents a place of dignity, care, and connection for local families.

This project is part of the Government of Ontario’s broader plan to build more than 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province by 2028.
