South Glengarry Marks Milestone with Glen Walter Water Tower Bowl Raising
South Glengarry, Ontario, October 2, 2025 – Eyes were to the sky this morning as Township officials gathered to witness the raising of the bowl on the newly constructed water tower in Glen Walter.
The Glen Walter Water Tower Project was initiated in 2021, when the Township successfully secured funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure – Green Stream program. The project includes the construction of an elevated water storage tank to address critical health and safety needs, while ensuring greater access to safe, reliable drinking water for the community.
In 2024, the contract for construction of the tower was awarded to Landmark Structures Co. with a bid totaling $7,793,000. Federal and provincial contributions will provide $3,645,967.60 towards the project, with the remainder funded through the Township’s water reserves, financing, and potentially future grant opportunities.
“Today marks an important milestone for our community,” stated Mayor Lachlan McDonald, “This project represents more than just critical infrastructure, it’s an investment in the future of our residents, our businesses, and our growing community. I want to thank everyone involved in bringing this project to life, and I look forward to seeing the benefits it will deliver for generations to come.”
General Manager of Infrastructure Services, Sarah McDonald, who oversaw the coordination of the project, added, “This bowl raising is a major milestone and visual reminder of the progress being made in Glen Walter. Seeing this vision take shape through the hard work of our partners and staff has been truly rewarding.”
Today’s progress reflects the Township’s ongoing commitment to investing in critical infrastructure that strengthens the community for generations to come.
