South Glengarry Receives $924,360 towards Char-Lan Recreation Centre Rehabilitation Project

On Friday, July 11, 2025, MPP Nolan Quinn announced that South Glengarry was successful in their application for the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF). Members of South Glengarry Council and staff were present at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre to hear MPP Quinn’s announcement of the $924,360 funding.

This project will improve the arena’s functionality and lifespan by replacing the roof, siding, and insulation, along with ventilation openings and a new dehumidifier. This will address the aging infrastructure, energy efficiency, and improve the arena operations through temperature and moisture control.

The anticipated cost of the project will be approximately $2M, with nearly half of the project being funded by the Province. Applicants were able to apply for up to 50% of their total project costs, with the maximum funding amount of up to $1M. At the October 21, 2024 Council Meeting, South Glengarry Council supported the funding application and committed to providing the additional funds required for the project if the Township was successful in their application.

“This funding is wonderful news for our community. Thanks to the support of the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, the Township of South Glengarry can move forward with an important project at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre. The recreation centre is more than just a building; it’s where our children learn to skate, where we gather for local events, and where countless memories are made. The Township is grateful to the Province for investing in the spaces that bring our community together." – Mayor Lachlan McDonald

The procurement for the project will begin in 2025, with construction beginning in 2026. Timelines for construction will be determined once the procurement process has been completed.

The CSRIF is part of the Province’s $200M provincewide initiative that helps communities revitalize local facilities, grow the economy and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.
