This is the perfect time for a youth or adult who is still learning how to skate. Only inexperienced skaters and those helping skaters will be permitted on the ice. Skate aids are permitted. 

Join us on February 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the Kilt Skate

South Glengarry Outdoor Rink Update:

Outdoor rink operations are weather dependent and based on volunteer availability. The Township currently has outdoor rink facilities at the following locations:

  • Paul Rozon Memorial Park (Williamstown)
  • Empey Poirier Park (Glendale Subdivsion)
  • Martintown Community Park
  • Smithfield Park
  • Jack Danaher Park (Bainsville) 
  • North Lancaster 

Stick and Puck Rules

Work on the fundamentals of hockey and improve your skills. The Stick and Puck program is designed to enable skaters in full hockey gear, the opportunity to work on passing, puck control and skating drills. 

All public skating rules apply in addition to the rules below.

  • Youth must be supervised by an adult at all times. Adult to child ratio is 1 to 2.
  • Youth must wear full hockey equipment including CSA certified helmet.
  • Parents/Guardian must wear a CSA-Approved helmet, gloves, and skates.
  • Individuals are not permitted on the ice during flooding.
  • Slap shots are not permitted. Youth/Adult will be asked to leave ice surface if this is not followed.
  • Hockey games or practices are not permitted

Public Skating Rules

People of all ages can take to the ice during our public skating season which runs from September to March. The Char-Lan Recreation Centre offers a leisurely skate at your own pace with no pucks or nets on the ice. Public Skating is free on behalf of the Township of South Glengarry.

  • Skates are mandatory for anyone entering the ice surface.
  • Youth must wear a CSA-Certified helmet. Adults are strongly encouraged to wear a CSA-Certified helmet also.
  • Food, drinks, and cellphones/electronics/headsets are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice during flooding.
  • Carrying infants and/or children is prohibited.
  • Skate at a safe speed in the same direction as other skaters
  • Skaters are not allowed on the ice during flooding.
  • Rough play, speed or figure skating, foul language, inappropriate behaviour and multiplayer games (i.e. tag and races) will not be permitted
  • Items that may cause a safety concern to other skaters are not permitted. Items may include balls, pucks, sticks, pylons, strollers or chairs.
    Figure Skating Rules

Practice your recreational figure skating skills in a freestyle fashion. No instruction provided. There may be a variance in skill levels on the ice.

All public skating rules apply in addition the rules below.

  • No coaching permitted
  • Figure skates are mandatory
  • Respect the space of others
  • All skaters are strongly encouraged to wear a CSA-approved helmet
