Electronic & Household Hazardous Waste

green bin filled with electronic waste

Electronic Waste

Electronic waste is the fastest growing source of waste in North America. When e-waste is not recycled, it ends up in our landfills. Lead, cadmium and mercury are found in most electronic equipment, increasing risks to human health and the environment if they are not properly managed.

The Township of South Glengarry provides residents with free access to an E-Waste Recycling bin at our landfill sites through Ontario Electronic Stewardship. Registration card with proof of South Glengarry residency required for free disposal.

Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes everyday items like paint, cleaners, motor oil, anti freeze, vehicle & household batteries, pesticides, solvents, fluorescent light bulbs and tubes, oil filters and empty auto containers that can be dangerous if not disposed of properly. When these materials end up in landfills or down the drain, they can release toxic chemicals like mercury, lead, and solvents, harming our soil, water, and air — posing serious risks to human health and wildlife.
