Electronic & Household Hazardous Waste

Electronic Waste
Electronic waste is the fastest growing source of waste in North America. When e-waste is not recycled, it ends up in our landfills. Lead, cadmium and mercury are found in most electronic equipment, increasing risks to human health and the environment if they are not properly managed.
The Township of South Glengarry provides residents with free access to an E-Waste Recycling bin at our landfill sites through Ontario Electronic Stewardship.
Check the list below to see what electronic waste is and is not accepted.
Accepted E-Waste

Protect Your Personal Information
When disposing of electronics, ensure that all personal data is removed from the devices prior to putting them in the bin. If you are unsure how to do this, contact the device manufacturer for more information.
It is your obligation to protect your personal information. The Township of South Glengarry does not accept liability for data or any other digital content that is left on electronic products disposed of at our landfill sites.
Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes everyday items like paint, cleaners, motor oil, batteries, and pesticides that can be dangerous if not disposed of properly. When these materials end up in landfills or down the drain, they can release toxic chemicals like mercury, lead, and solvents, harming our soil, water, and air — posing serious risks to human health and wildlife.
