Landfill Services: What You Need to Know

The Township of South Glengarry provides landfill access to residents on a rotational schedule, and only waste generated within the township will be accepted, out-of-town waste will be refused and must be disposed of through alternative arrangements. These measures help ensure compliance with Environmental Compliance Approvals and preserve landfill capacity for local residents. Effective August 5, 2025, By-law 2025-28 (Collection and Management of Solid Waste) comes into effect, introducing changes to waste accepted at landfills: residential and agricultural materials will only be accepted if transported in a dump trailer of 5 cubic metres or smaller, and Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (IC&I) waste will no longer be accepted. For more information, please contact the Township’s Infrastructure Department.

Landfill Access Registration

A landfill registration pass costs $20.00 and can be purchased at the Township office or at any landfill site during regular business hours. Registration is a one-time process.

If you change vehicles, simply bring your old registration card to the Township office or a landfill site and a replacement will be issued at no charge.

Important Information:
An authorization card is required if someone is bringing material to the landfill on behalf of a property owner. Please see the information below for details on how to obtain an authorization card.

Authorization Cards for Landfill Use

To help prevent unauthorized or commercial dumping, South Glengarry now requires Authorization Cards for anyone bringing waste to the landfill on behalf of a property owner.

Who Needs an Authorization Card?

If you are not the property owner (friends, family, neighbours, or helpers – non-commercial only), you must present an Authorization Card each time you visit the landfill.

How to Get a Card

  • Property owner must visit the Municipal Office during office hours (Mon–Fri, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM).
  • Bring:
    • Photo I.D. showing South Glengarry residency
    • Proof of property ownership
    • Valid vehicle registration
  • Fill out a short form to name your authorized transporter(s).
  • Up to 4 cards may be issued per visit.

Rules for Authorization Cards

  • Transporter must show matching photo I.D. at the landfill.
  • Waste must come from a South Glengarry residential property.
  • Transport must be in a dump trailer 5m³ or smaller.
  • Cards can be used for:
    • Free access days (2 per year) - some conditions apply.
